We built Grain because a label is a marketing document.

Why.

Every product on every shelf is designed to be chosen. The words that reassure go on the front in a confident font. The words that don't sit on the back in a language most of us never studied. And six regulators — each covering different parts of the world, each answering different political questions — reach different conclusions about what is and isn't okay to put in there.

That's the entire situation. A box of cereal is not a box of cereal. It's a negotiation between a brand and a regulator and your attention span, and the brand is better at negotiating than you are. We wanted a tool that flipped the asymmetry. Not a lecture, not an alarm — just a small calm window that reads the label faster than a human can, checks six opinions in parallel, and hands you a number.

What we believe.

A score is a starting point, not a verdict. The methodology is open and we publish the changelog. We never take money from the brands we rate. We don't run ads. We don't sell data. The privacy page lists every company that ever touches your data — there are five, and we audited them. If any of that stops being true, we've lost the plot.

The app should work quietly. Scan. Get the number. Move on. The shopping decision belongs to you — we just make it faster and better informed.

Who we are.

A small team that spent too many weekends squinting at ingredient lists, decided to build a better answer, and kept going. If you want to talk — about the product, about regulation, about the fact that you're allergic to something and Grain missed it — write us.
